Where do Ponies Come From? :)

Hiyee! These be some ideas of where us MLPs came from. All these ideas are quoted directly from emails to me, or emails to the mailing list on this topic. If you want your email addy posted by your idea, or your theory removed, LMK! Also, tell me if I have your pony alias right :)And if you have some idea, let me know to! I'm trying to post as many ideas as possible, so help out a fellow pony :) Thankoo!

Buzzer's Original Theory

A pony's life starts under the rainbow where a pony is "born". They basically appear as a little generic symbol-less pony. If they are adopted by an adult pony, during the first few weeks of life they take on characteristics of that pony (symbol, colors, personality, etc). If not, they take on characteristics of whatever they are exposed to most.
For instance:
~The Valentines Twins were probably created on Valentines day, therefore being exposed to hearts and valentines.
~Baby Leaper probably had an encounter with a frog.
~Baby Cuddles' favorite toy was most likely a rattle.
~Sparkle Babies might have been born under a sky of stars.

Mare Ann's Theory

I think that ponies do not "mate" in the normal considered fashion, for they are above animal level certainly, as they are intelligent (some more than other ;) and are magical, so do not necessarily have to. I believe ponies come from the rainbow, and eventually get their symbol. Some get them right away such as the newborns, while some are late bloomers such as Ember. It's like getting babyteeth, notice that baby surprise does not have nearly as many balloons a surprise. Someday she will when her "baby teeth" "fall out" thus also, cuddles has a rattle, but as she matures It may turn into maracas or something interesting like that :) As for their actual creation, I believe they come from ones imagination. The rainbow draws on that to create new ponies, such that say Suprise (good example pony ;) took a nap by the rainbow one day and dreamed of having a baby. The rainbow drew on that and created one for her. Then one day months later, baby surprise was found at the base of the rainbow, a gift to surprise from the rainbow and her imagination. And as for who would go with who, they would know, the magic of the rainbow would inspire them to come together. That is why it is possible to have single mothers, when there aren't even any males around, however, if a pair of ponies (male female or whatever combination) want to have a child together, they merely need the same dream (concious or unconscious) and they will recieve, thus the loving families. That is also why there are no undesired babies in ponyland, every baby was one or more ponies true hearts desire.

Speedy's Theory

*When two Ponies fall in love and decide they want a baby they go to the rainbow and call up to it asking for a child. The rainbow magicly combines those two Ponies' personalities, appereance, symbol and type (unicorn, pegasus) and soon the mother is pregnant.*

No one seems to get my idea about Pegasus being Decendents of Cross-breeding between Flutter Ponies and Earth Ponies. For Flutter Ponies to be concidered Ponies at all they would have to be faintly related to the Normal Ponies. I'm saying maybe a long time ago-that no one remembers a few Flutter Ponies cross-bred with Earth Ponies and came out with Pegasai. Then the Flutter Ponies Left to Flutter Valley and The My Little Ponies forgot about them until My Little Ponies the Movie!

Baby Seashell's Theory

In my herd, Ponies reproduce like normal horses. However, the magic of the rainbow gives them symbols. There's a certain "moment" during the mother's pregnancy at which the symbol of the baby appears - perhaps when the mother sees a rainbow. Whatever she was thinking of just before she saw that rainbow becomes the baby's symbol. For example, I consider Powder to be the mother of Baby Noddins, whose symbol is a bunny. Powder was probably playing with a rabbit when she saw a rainbow.

Pillow Talk's Theory

I am not sure how it would work-- I like the idea that the symbol has something special to do with each pony's destiny. I like to think that when a pony is born, it is a moment of great excitement when everyone gathers around to see its symbol. They learn something special about what that pony's personality will be, or its fate, or its special job.

Gusty's Theory

I alway imagine that the babies of the flutter ponies are the windy wing and summerwing ponies :^) though i dont' know exactly how the breeding went for that :^)

Rebecca's Theory

the whole idea of pony coitus has never really settled well with me, that's why "big brothers" disturb me I guess. It seems that rainbows as a sentient giver of life is a common theme in all of these creation myths; and as long as one has a creator- why not take it a step further any mythologize the original collector ponies? This all smacks of greek mythology to me- gaea is the rainbow, the collector ponies her original 6 ponies (minus the cyclops).First there must be only a germ of an idea. But, as in a ll creation stories, soon the "idea" seperates itself from the "force" and a division occurs between that which creates and that which is created. , and Upon the birth of these 6, the first true relationships are forged- between those who are created and she who creates. As the relationships are defined, they in turn work towards defining those to whom it applies to- in a symbiotic relationship. The collector ponies are the heralds of a pony world. They individualize in the rapidly luminating world, adopting personalities, colors, pattens, names, and talents. A new generation is born under the fully developed conscious (pegasi, unicorns), of the Rainbow who has suceeded in asserting itself a creator. This generation, and each proceeding one increases in it's beauty and indiviuality, and the rainbow thrives in her own creative life, turning out masterpeices such as the rainbow ponies. The collectors set a prescedent for all that which shall be created in pony land, and in them as in all ponies; the rainbow has bestowed a spark of creative spirit- which manifests itself in the various and beautiful aspects of pony life that us humans have come to admire. It comes to be that at one point, seperation between created and creator is so distinct that all reproduction can be pony directed, of course under the influence of pony culture as it has evolved to embody qualities of any good society, ie, love, justice, responsability, peace, compassion, ect. The rainbow therefore evolves into a much purer, one dimensional embodiement of beauty and pony value, exisitng almost passively as a life source for it's people. This is therefore the pony world as we know it, a much simpler, impossible, and more pleasant version of our own.

Galaxy's Theory

in my herd, the ponies also reproduce like regular ponies but they are born symboless. they take on their first symbol as tiny babies as whatever they are exposed to most...either their mother's symbol or a toy that they particularly like to play with(i.e. a rattle, blocks, teddy bear, etc). later as they mature into child ponies their first symbol fades and another one appears...this one is something else that they like a lot, maybe a toy or something else(sometimes this first change doesn't happen and they retain their first symbol- the mommy/baby ponies). when they become adult ponies their symbol changes one last time into their "profession" or something else they like as adults.

Lily's Theory

And on the subject of which kinds of ponies have which kinds of babies, I've worked the following out. Earth must be a dominant gene, 'cause there are sooo many more Earths than anything else. Peg and Uni must be recessive, they may crop up once in a while, but it's more likely that if there's an Earth parent, the kids'll be mainly Earths too. Flutters, of course, must be pure-bred anyhow as they live in Flutter Valley and no other kinds of ponies live there, so there's no need to work out where They come in, if you're just going by the original pony stories.

Moondancer's Theory

I've always thought the symbols had something to do with the destiny of the pony. Someone else mentioned this, also. It would make sense with the stories, like Baby Moondancer with the moon guiding her back home, Rattles and Tattles with the twin bunnies, and Lofty with the hot air balloon ride. I also think they're part of the magic that the Rainbow gives to each pony. In the stories, they seem to go together.
